i used to be a big fan of ENGLISH cricket but now the ECB is just pissing me off.. after WI, it was always england maybe bcuz of andrew flintoff..
1st ed joyce, then eoin morgan and now boyd rankin,, why r they stealing associate talent, y do they need rankin when they have such good fast bowlers, if it was football, this would have never been allowed by FIFA, why in cricket..
should the ICC step in and prevent full members to steal associate talent.

English young boys do not fancy cricket any more. Their interest is on Football, Soccer, Tennis, etc. as these games finish fast unlike cricket which can go on for 5 days after which it can end in a draw. So, they are unable to produce great players any more. This is the reason they have to pinch players from South Africa and Ireland. I am surprised that Saqlain Mushtaq is not playing as an Englishman.

They are not stealing Irish talent as Ireland is part of UK.
These youngsters, because of being selected to play or England get good international exposure which would serve them in good stead.

BTW, this question was raised by another user yesterda.

Firstly The so called “Associate” players are happy playing for england..

England is happy they are playing for england..

Ireland is happy that England is modelling players for their future Cricket team if they get test status.

    Everyone is happy…

They aren’t stealing them. I mean technically since Ireland is not a member yet so their players can participate for both England and Ireland. That’s why Dirk Nannes can represent both Australia & Netherlands.

Besides, it good for the associate players if they can have the exposure of international cricket which they can’t when playing for Ireland.

ICC should do something to stop player migration and help associate members. The fault is everyone’s. ICC has made its rules slack in such cases, the players are after recognition and money, and ECB is allowing them to play for England. There are tons of thousands of Players in England, why do they need players from Associate?countries.
And by the way, it is England and Wales Cricket board and not England, Wales and Ireland Cricket board or UK Cricket board.

And also ICC should relax eligibility criterion a person for associate members. As of now, you should be a natural citizen of a country or should have stayed in a country for at least 183 days in the last seven years to play for that country. These kind of rules are stifling cricket’s progress in countries like US. Let the rule be same for Full members, but there should be some concession for Associate members.

Sorry to hear your no longer a fan, but England aren’t breaking any rules here. Unfortunately for Ireland, England are well within their right to take any Irish players.

The reason for this? These Ireland players are playing in the English County Championship, by playing in the County Championship it allows young Irish players to qualify to play for England because they have been in England for over 4 years.

How can they stop this? Ireland need to gain Test status, if they do this then the Irish players will want to keep playing for their country?

Another way it can be stopped? If Ireland create a domestic league of their own, and allow the Irish players to play in that, then the Irish players won’t qualify to play for England. Of course this would take years of planning and money!
